Arrests pending in deadly home invasion

OFF THE WIRE
Investigators plan to make multiple arrests next week in connection with Tuesday's deadly home invasion at a Hunlock Creek home-turned- methamphetamine-lab, state police said Thursday.
The news came a day after the arrest of alleged methamphetamine trafficker Jeffrey Thomas Laton, 40, of 91 Smith Mountain Road in Wapwallopen.
On Thursday, state police said Laton, who was inside the home at the time of the invasion, was questioned as a "person of interest" in the case. He is jailed on the drug-dealing charges.
Authorities have said a female fatally shot convicted felon Robert Muntz, 44, when Muntz and two others showed up at the 59 Old Tavern Road home, which operated as a methamphetamine lab. The female, who has not been publicly identified, was shot in the arm. Muntz's two accomplices fled.
Police say they know the accomplices' identities, but are withholding their names.
"Multiple arrests are expected next week," said Trooper Tom Kelly, spokesman for state police at Wyoming.
It remained unclear Thursday if Laton faces any charges related to the home invasion/ methamphetamine lab case.
Laton was arrested Wednesday on allegations he sold $100 worth of methamphetamine to a police informant on July 2 and again on July 18 in Nanticoke. He was charged with multiple counts each of possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance, possession of a controlled substance and criminal use of a community facility. He was also detained on a probation violation out of Luzerne County Court.
As for Muntz, he was out on bail awaiting trial on three sets of criminal charges from 2009 and 2010, stemming from an assault, the operation of a methamphetamine lab at his then 195 W. Green St., Nanticoke, home and his alleged involvement with a multimillion-dollar drug ring run by the Ashley-based Outlaws Motorcycle Club, the local affiliate of a dangerous nationwide biker gang.
An autopsy was conducted Wednesday and determined Muntz's death was a homicide due to a gunshot wound to the head, Luzerne County Coroner John Corcoran said. Police and prosecutors will determine whether it was justifiable homicide, which Luzerne County District Attorney Jackie Musto Carroll said is still being investigated.
