SC beach town clears up rules for bike festival

OFF the Wire News
ATLANTIC BEACH, S.C. -- A South Carolina beach town is cleaning up some local laws before this year's Memorial Day Bikefest.

Multiple media outlets reported Atlantic Beach Town Council gave initial approval Monday to rules on vendors, alcoholic beverages, traffic plans and the use of golf carts.

Officials say some activities have violated local ordinances.

One change allows alcoholic beverages to be sold only with an appropriate license and permit displayed in designated areas defined by the town.

Vendors will be restricted to stationary locations. Bikefest organizers will regulate entertainment that uses speakers.

Final approval could come next month.

Neighboring Myrtle Beach has sought to restrict biker activities but Atlantic Beach continues to welcome the riders for the Memorial Day Bikefest.
