ONTARIO - Police officers will conduct a specialized enforcement Friday aimed at unsafe motorcyclists and unsafe motorists.
Officers on patrol will concentrate on areas where motorcyclists often ride, according to an Ontario police news release. The specialized patrols will begin at 5 p.m.
Fatalities of motorcycle riders have risen over the past 10 years, according to the release.
From October of 2007 and October 2009 there were two motorcyclists killed and 36 motorcyclists injured in collisions in the city.
Contributing factors to motorcycle crashes include speeding, lack of proper training and inexperience of new riders, according to the release.
Police remind all motorists to be aware of motorcycles especially when changing lanes and making turns.
Riders can get training through the California Motorcyclist Safety Program. Information is available at www.CA-msp.org or 877-RIDE-411.
Funding for the operation is provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
