Raytheon is installing laptops on motorcycles used by the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department with a goal of having 100 motorcycles equipped with the computers by this fall.
The company said motorcycle deputies will use the computers to access data, as well as to conduct license plate checks and wanted persons inquiries.
These computers are similar to those the company is installing in other LASD vehicles, said T.J. Kennedy, director of public safety and security for Raytheon’s network centric systems business.
LASD Capt. Scott Edson said the department will reduce voice radio traffic and use the computers to issue electronic citations.
Raytheon is also contracted to provide new dispatch consoles to LA County’s sheriff and fire departments.
