FBI: Law enforcement officer 'leaked' sensitive information

OFF THE WIRE
ATLANTA (CBS ATLANTA) - CBS Atlanta News has learned the Federal Bureau of Investigation is investigating a leak by a law enforcement officer that compromised the agency's probe of the Outlaw Motorcycle Club.
According to a criminal complaint filed in U.S. District Court, Northern Georgia District, a confidential informant's identity was revealed to club members.
The complaint explained the FBI used two confidential informants and an undercover agent to gather information from inside the Outlaw Motorcycle Club.
After the identity of one informant was revealed, club president Larry McDaniel reportedly ordered a clubhouse in Cleveland, GA, to be shut down. According to the complaint, McDaniel said "there is a 'Fed' in the house and I have a GBI letter to prove it."
"The fact that there's a leak is a big deal and is always taken seriously," said Zahra Karinshak a former federal prosecutor.
Karinshak said the leak could have put the lives of officers and informants at risk.
As a result of the investigation, the FBI raided several Outlaw Motorcycle clubhouses and homes in August.
Twenty-three members were arrested and charged with drug and firearm offenses.
The criminal complaint reads, "this investigation has a public corruption leak that is relaying sensitive information to the OMC (Outlaw Motorcycle Club). Furthermore, this leak is obstructing the FBI's formal investigation."
