Plant City man dies of injuries suffered in motorcycle wreck
A 23-year-old motorcyclist died of his injuries Friday following a wreck in Plant City.
Ariel Perez of Plant City was thrown from his 2005 Honda motorcycle Thursday when it collided with a Ford van driven by 90-year-old Rebecca Smith of Plant City. The crash happened at the intersection of South Alexander and West Grant streets, police said.
According to witnesses, Perez was riding his motorcycle north on Alexander Street when Smith turned into his path while making a left turn onto West Grant Street about 11:40 a.m., police said.
Perez struck the passenger side of Smith's vehicle and was thrown off. He was wearing a helmet at the time but still suffered a severe head injury, police said.
Smith was not injured.
