CANADA - Probationary Outlaws gang member going to federal prison..

OFF THE WIRE
A probationary member of the Outlaws motorcycle gang, charged in Peterborough, has been sentenced to four years in a federal prison.

Keith Harry Nolan, 36, of Richmond Hill, pleaded guilty last week to five charges including possessing a loaded restricted firearm and obstruct justice for trying to pass a note to a co-accused while in jail and offering to take the fall in exchange for financial compensation for him and his family.

Mr. Justice Robert Beninger sentenced Nolan Thursday afternoon.

Nolan's sentence includes 70 days of pre-trial custody.

Nolan was wearing a black Ontario Motorcycle Gang vest with a "Probationary Outlaw" patch on the front and back when he was charged with two other men March 11. He was a passenger in a car that hit a light pole outside the Quaker Oats office building around 8:15 p.m. Nearby, buried next to a tree under snow, police found a loaded restricted firearm.

The unregistered handgun was reported missing in 1982.

Police found marijuana, knives, a functioning cellphone jammer "jamming police communication and phone calls," about $340 in cash and a silver ring with an Outlaws Motorcycle Gang crest in the car.

Nolan also had two pocket knives and two cellphones.

A correctional officer at the Central East Correctional Centre in Lindsay intercepted a note Nolan tried to pass to one of his co-accused March 21. It starts with a reference to "Patty" who "never gave any orders for me to take any beef."

Court heard that Patty is the president of the Ontario branch of the Outlaws.

In the note Nolan said he was willing to "go do the time as long as it's pentime" in exchange for money.

Nolan also pleaded guilty to unauthorized possession of a firearm, occupying a vehicle while a firearm is present, and breaching a court order to not contact one his co-accused.

Mark Andrew Cleary, 29, of Milroy Dr., and Wayne Neil Crowell, 36, of Cannington, were also charged March 11 and face weapons and drug charges.
