ATV's Chandler's Law - H.3562, Read second time, Roll Call, yeas 65, nays 42
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Roll Call Votes - H.3004, Awaiting ratification by House & Senate
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Cell Phones - S.225, Still in Judiciary committee. RELATING TO THE ASSESSMENT OF POINTS AGAINST A PERSON'S DRIVING RECORD FOR CERTAIN MOTOR VEHICLE VIOLATIONS, SO AS TO PROVIDE THAT ONE POINT MUST BE ASSESSED AGAINST THE DRIVING RECORD OF A PERSON CONVICTED OF USING A WIRELESS ELECTRONIC COMMUNICATION DEVICE TO COMPOSE, SEND, OR READ A TEXT-BASED COMMUNICATION WHILE OPERATING A MOTOR VEHICLE.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Raffles - S.255, Passed Senate, Roll Call votes, Ayes 24 Nays 16 in House Judiciary Committee.
S.256 - Change to the Constitution Roll Call votes, Ayes 22 Nays 17 it hasn't made it to the House yet.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Speed Cameras - S.336, passed Senate Roll Call votes, Ayes 40 Nays 0, in House Judiciary Committee.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Federal bill HR 904, De-funding of Motorcycle-Only Roadblocks (so-called "safety checkpoints") - Congressman Joe Wilson supports it, what about your representative?
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Tort Reform/Seat Belts/Comparative Negligence H.3375, RELATING TO THE PENALTIES FOR THE MANDATORY USE OF SEATBELTS, SO AS TO DELETE THE PROVISION THAT PROVIDED THAT A VIOLATION FOR FAILURE TO WEAR A SEATBELT IS NOT NEGLIGENCE PER SE OR COMPARATIVE NEGLIGENCE AND IS NOT ADMISSIBLE IN A CIVIL ACTION.
In plain English, if you are not wearing a seat belt and are involved in an accident (even if you are not at fault), you may not receive as much compensation in a law suit or from an insurance company, because you were not wearing a seat belt. If this passes, expect helmets will be the next target!
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Accident Causing Death S.263, WHICH PROXIMATELY CAUSES DEATH TO A PERSON, IS GUILTY OF THE MISDEMEANOR OFFENSE OF VEHICULAR HOMICIDE...TO PROVIDE THAT A PERSON MUST SUBMIT TO EITHER ONE OR A COMBINATION OF CHEMICAL TESTS OF HIS BREATH, BLOOD, OR URINE
This bill needs to have the mandatory drug testing removed - otherwise it is a rights violation and it will negate the effectiveness of the law.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Bear in mind the next important date on the Legislative Calendar is May 10th, "Crossover". If a bill does not crossover (from the Senate to the House, or from the House to the Senate) by this date, it is dead for that legislative session...
