CRITICAL ABOUT MOTORCYCLES -

OFF THE WIRE
CALIFORNIA
SB435 Motorcycle Exhaust Noise Enforcement Bill

if this bill passes, it could affect how you can or cannot fix or change your own motorcycle. It started out a motorcycle smog check bill and ABATE and others were able to strip all of that language out of the bill. But now it’s about pipes and noise, and your help is needed.

· Here’s the key point: If bikes don’t have mufflers with matching Federal EPA noise standard labels, the owner can be cited a $300 non-fix-it ticket. And this can happen if you’re riding it or it’s just parked somewhere.
· After-market sellers. This can really hurt your favorite after-market shop, and could help put them out of business.

Please take a moment, if you care, and write, fax, call and/or email the chair and members of the California Assembly Transportation Committee. All of the numbers, address, etc. plus the talking points are on the attachment. This bill will be heard, I believe, by the Transportation Committee on June 20th. That’s the first step, but a really important one. It’s possible to get the bill killed there if we can persuade the members to VOTE NO!

Thanks, everyone …

P.S. When you write or call, please be polite and concise. You must add your name and address.
