OCEANSIDE: Motorcycle enforcement planned next week, police say
1 hour ago  •  By MORGAN COOK mcook@nctimes.com
Traffic enforcement targeting unsafe motorcycle riding is planned for Monday and Tuesday, police announced Thursday.
Extra officers will patrol areas where motorcyclists often ride and where crashes tend to happen, said Oceanside Police Lt. Leonard Mata. Officers will be looking for unsafe riding, traffic violations and riders under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
Officers will also be looking for any driver violating traffic laws in ways that can cause motorcycle crashes, Mata said.
COMMENTS
1.Consider two things here. 1) Lane sharing is safer for the motorcyclist as too many riders are taken out from behind by some idiot not paying attention, or on their cell phone, or texting or doing their makeup or shoving and enormous piece of junk food into their pie hole or riding with fluffy on their lap or rocking out to music or name your distracted driver here. 2) Smart riders run away from traffic and put plenty of space between them and the distracted cagers. Normal and smart. Not racing to race but getting away to be safer. Bikes can handle a little more speed than cars quite safely.
2. On the other hand, targeting motorcyclists seems like excessive and abusive police tactics with traffic law enforcement not requiring extra effort, it is a daily task.
