Local 6 April monthly report

APRIL 2010 LOCAL 6 REPORT
FOR THE BAILING WIRE
It was another beautiful day for a meeting overlooking Mission Bay in Sunny San Diego. It was a pretty good turnout for an Easter Sunday, Fran planned on wearing bunny ears instead of a helmet. After the meeting San Diego was graced with the shake, rattle and roll of a 7.2 Earthquake that happened about 125 miles away in Mexicali…Wow ! A group of riders did a “lid free” ride to the meeting, and I gave a membership application to the San Diego policeman who followed them into the park. Red said that you can have a Helmet Law Protest every weekend if you want……just don’t put the helmet on !
Larry Hanson, a Local 6 Life Member, passed away in New Mexico, also there will be a Memorial Ride and “Celebration of Life” for member Beaver Bard who passed away recently. The run starts at 10 AM on April 10 at the cross on Mount Soledad and ends at American Legion 460 on Armour St in San Diego.
Several members from Local 6 and Local 11 attended Senator Denise Ducheny’s Birthday party (she and her husband Al are local 6 member). They made some valuable political contacts. The local 6 treasury sent donations to the “Run for the Wall” start up fund, operated by local 19, and to the Southern Regional Rally. Thanks to the new members, and thanks to those members that renew.! Local 6 started last year with 128 members, and ended the year with 141 members. Way to Go ! Let’s give a welcome to the members who stood up and volunteered to step into vacant Local 6 Officer positions : Patty Wilber, Recording Secretary; Doc Robinson (and Family) Membership Coordinator; and Michael Decker, Treasurer.
There was a Run near San Diego to raise funds for families of G.I’s.
The local Sheriff’s Dept and the CHP heard that it was a “gang” event and pulled over anyone who was wearing any kind of a patch. HOG patches, Baseball teams, and such……They even had a Bear in the Air ! Local 6 has made plenty of phone calls and emails, and is continuing to follow up on these actions.
