In My Humble Opinion

OFF THE WIRE
Have you read the news this week ? Ten thousand French Motorcyclists shut down 60 french cities on March 13th to protest the government trying to end lane-sharing ! and 4,000 British motorcyclists protested a motorcycle parking tax and said that they are done talking nice to the politicians for eighteen months, and would follow France's example. Terrific !

A big lawsuit in our history, around 1996, Was "Easyriders VS Hannigan" a major success for us and against the mandatory motorcycle-helmet law. The motorcyclists who acted as the plaintiffs...were ABATE members. Then came "ABATE VS San Diego Police Department". That one was won in three days.

The motorcyclists that brought about "Quigley VS CHP" (2008) The case that questioned the constitutional right for the helmet law to exist, were all members of BOLT of California (www.boltofca.org) and were also members of ABATE. A large portion of the funds used to fight this case, were donations from ABATE members.

Wow ! We have some history, don't we ? The thought that lingers with me is.......
.........................WHAT HAVE WE DONE LATELY ?????????????????

Will the new ABATE members ten years from now be discussing "I hear that back in the Old Days"...... If we don't maintain our status as "a Motorcycle Rights Organization" instead of just having parties and charity runs, will there even BE an ABATE of CA ten years from now ? What are we doing to attract the type of new members who are not afraid of a battle ?
