PHOENIX - The truck driver who is allegedly responsible for killing four motorcyclists while he was high on methamphetamine has been indicted on four counts of manslaughter.
A grand jury handed down the 16-count indictment Tuesday, which charges 46-year-old Michael Jakscht with four counts of manslaughter, five counts of aggravated assault, and seven counts of endangerment.
On March 25, Jakscht was driving the dump truck that crashed into a group of motorcycles stopped at a red light on Carefree Hwy in north Phoenix.
Three drivers died at the scene -- 67-year-old Clyde R. Nachand, 35-year-old Daniel L. Butler, and 52-year-old Stephen Punch. A fourth victim, 47-year-old Dayle Veronica Downs-Totonchi, died at the hospital.
Five other riders were injured, including an off-duty Phoenix Fire Captain.
Jakscht was arrested on April 6 following the release of a toxicology report and two weeks of police surveillance. Police say there was methamphetamine in his system on the day of the crash.
He's being held on $1 million bond.
