There are many ways to bug a phone. The most comment, and most effective bug is the actual downloading of the spy ware directly on someone's phone. The Phone is done simply by a copy, and paste from a desk top using SSH (OPEN SOURCE through your IP address.
other phones need to be connected by a USB port for downloads. An e-mail attachment spiked with a code can also be use, but it is more difficult for them. Clone SIM cards, and telephone interceptors are also used.

If your phone battery dies too quickly, if your phone gets very hot, if you hear feed back a lot then this can be a sign that you have been bugged. If you are a business person, a wealthy person, a CEO, a police officer, a government employee your chances are greater, but this does not exclude anyone, and all depending on what the bad guy is looking for.
