The firearm licences of nine motorcyclists in Wangaratta have been formally
cancelled.
The members from the Wangaratta Tramps Motorcycle Club initially had their licences suspended after a state-wide police raid targeting outlaw motorcycle gaxxx in August.
Their lawyer, John Suta, says the decision to cancel the licences is unwarranted.
He says his clients are responsible members of the community.
"The fact that some of the members have passed the most rigorous of ASIO checks in terms of their employment," he said.
"Some of the club members hold responsible positions such as [at] airports and other government institutions in the security line of business."
He says he will be challenging the decision.
"All those clients for who I act with lodged appeals to the firearms appeals committee and also in terms of the Wangaratta-based club, for whom I act, we've also issued proceedings in the Supreme Court seeking judicial review of the chief commissioner's decision to cancel the firearms licence," he said.
Comment is being sought from the firearms chief commissioner.
