OFF THE WIRE
OUT ON THE OPEN ROAD ???
It would be nice to think so, but we certainly cannot count on it. On the news recently, it was featured that Cal Trans spent 92 Million Dollars last year picking large items and small off of the Freeways....including a hundred and thirty eight Thousand trash bags full of stuff from the San Diego area alone !
"WHEW"
Aim high in steering, keep enough following distance so that if something "appears" out from under that car in front of you...you will have enough time to react smoothly, and expect the unexpected. Constant Surface Appraisal can help you to keep the Shiny Side Up.
Do we want to leave that 'trap' for the riders coming up that road later on ? At your first opportunity, call 911 and report the road hazard, including highway number, direction of travel, which lane number, and what the hazard is.
safety hazard
Safety Hazard on Route 5 in San Diego. If you are coming South on route I-5, pass the exit for Route 52, and then move into the right lane to exit at “Exit 23”, A condition exists , upon downshifting, that can put your rear-wheel into a “wobble”. Cal Trans has been notified of this, but there has been no change so far. On the same subject if you are traveling NORTH on route I-5 during wet weather, and exit at “Grand / Garnet”, You can find large, unexpected potholes in the left lane as you pass under the overpass.
