THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. (KABC) -- Detectives on Monday night tried to piece together the motive behind a murder that took place in front of a popular motorcycle shop in Thousand Oaks.
A young man was shot multiple times on the 3100 block of Los Feliz Boulevard in the afternoon.
Ventura County Sheriff's Department detectives said they are now searching for Daniel Charles Wildman, a person of interest in the case.
"This happened in broad daylight," said sheriff's Det. Eric Buschow. "We're talking about 5 p.m. It happened in the middle of this courtyard between these automotive businesses. This was done very publicly. We do have a lot of witnesses. People are still being interviewed."
Witnesses said the shooting happened right outside Cycle Works, a shop known for repairing and restoring new and vintage motorcycles.
Joe Onesto of Thousand Oaks was on his way to pick up his motorcycle and arrived just minutes after the victim was shot.
"He was shot by an individual that apparently had been out looking for him, I understand," Onesto said. "He walked out of the shop and as he walked out of the shop the individual fired some shots at him. I don't know how many."
Onesto said the victim, whose first name is Darren, had been working at this business for years.
"He worked here at the motorcycle shop," Onesto said. "We only had a few conversations, but he seemed like a nice individual, always into his work."
Authorities can't say why the employee was targeted.
Wildman was last seen driving a silver 1990 Nissan sport coup with a California license plate number 6BCT674.
Anyone with information on the incident is asked to call detectives at (805) 654-9511.
