SKOWHEGAN -- A motorist on the Canaan Road Sunday morning reported an incident involving an alleged member of the Hells Angels Motorcycle Club.

A caller to the regional communications center said the biker kept passing him, then dropping back and getting behind his car.

A routine check of the bike's license plate given to police indicated a black Harley-Davidson registered to a "criminal gang member" -- Hells Angels, according to the communications log. There also was an attached message urging caution for police officers dealing with the man, according to the communications narrative.

Skowhegan Police Chief Michael Emmons said officers were sent to the area, but could not locate the bike. Another bike stopped by police turned out to be the wrong one.

"They never did catch up to him," Emmons said.

Emmons said police are aware of the Hells Angels' clubhouse in Canaan, but do not actively monitor it.

"We don't set up any special details and don't bother with them if there's no reason for stopping them," the chief said.
