The Department for Transport's Safety Helmet Assessment and Rating Programme (Sharp) has launched a new website to give motorcyclists advice and information on choosing a helmet.

Sharp's ratings for over 200 motorcycle helmets have been published in the new website.

The site also includes demonstrations of how the Sharp tests are carried out and information on how to make sure a helmet fits properly.

The motorcycle helmets are put through a wide range of tests, before Sharp awards ratings of between one and five stars.

These tests, aimed at helping riders select the safest helmet by finding out how much protection it can provide in a crash, indicate that the safety performance can vary by nearly 70%.
