Rev it up! for Ride for Kids

First of all we would like to Thank you for taking the time to read our fundraising page.

The San Diego Ride for Kids is in it's 7th year and Team David Sam will be there to join hundreds of others helping end the devastating effects of Pediatric Brain Tumors. Thanks to the thousands of motorcyclists that participate in this event around the country, the Ride for Kids program provides support towards the efforts of the P.B.T.F. We capture the public's attention through the efforts of the motorcycling community

David with other children, adolescents and young adults that have been impacted by brain tumors will be the Stars, as they are escorted on a ride in a side car, trike or the back of a bike.  A celebration of life ceremony honoring the Stars will take place as the highlight of the event. This year, I will again have the pleasure of being the Patient Family Liaison. It is my responsibility to make sure that the STARS and their families have the best motorcycle escort possible. Seeing the joy and thrill on their faces makes it truly a gift that lasts.  By making a pledge on our team’s behalf, you are supporting research, so that new therapies that extend the lives of children, will ultimately lead to a cure for this most devastating of childhood cancers.  Currently David is Participating in a clinical trial at UCLA which requires a huge committment, but it's worth it because of the positive outcome this research has towards tumor break throughs. He has a light that shines brightly every where he is. I have a personal stake in this particular event because of our own experiences with brain tumors. David has a brain tumor called a Subependymal Giant Cell Astrocytoma. By way of background, at the age of 6, David had his first brain tumor surgery. A second surgery was needed several months later because the entire tumor hadn't been removed. His tumors grow along the ventricles which is what our cerebral spinal fluid travels through. The tumor was blocking one of the ventricles. After the surgeries there were some problems, and shunts were needed to assist the ventricles. Then there were complications which caused a stroke at the occipital lobe of the brain, which then caused blindness. Partially sighted is the term for his vision, no peripheral. . He received his certificate of completion from Poway High in 2008 and is attending the transition program at Abraxas High School in Poway, Ca. David understands that he is somewhat different then other 20 years olds, but it doesn't get in his way of being committed to doing the things he loves, being an active participant and fundraiser for this charity is one of those things. Not only do I want to help him, but also the many other children and families facing pediatric brain tumors. The diagnosis of a brain tumor was virtually a death sentence for a child.  Most treatments were ineffective or harsh, and most children did not survive to adulthood. The PBTF has worked hard to change that reality. Together, we’re making a difference in the lives of children with brain tumors. And with your help, we will cure the kids! If you have not already exhausted your 2011 charitable giving, we would greatly appreciate your support for this worthy cause. Please help us reach our goal with your pledge.
