Lakeside Saddletramps motorcycle club holding benefit for toddler Izaiah Wallis Posted: Jan 07, 2011 8:27 PM EST Updated: Jan 07, 2011 8:33 PM EST LAKESIDE - There is developing news Friday regarding the firey motorcycle-car crash that killed five people just outside of Ocotillo. The CHP now says they may have suspects wanted for causing the crash. CHP says they have had witnesses look at line ups of suspects at CHP headquarters in El Cajon. The investigation is still ongoing and as of Friday morning no one has been arrested. KUSI will continue to update this story as it unfolds.
Less than two months after losing several friends in a fiery, multivehicle collision, the Lakeside Saddletramps motorcycle club is reaching out to other county residents in need.
The group will stage a benefit ride Sunday to raise money for the family of Izaiah Wallis, a toddler who suffered brain damage and other major injuries in October when he was struck by a drunken teenage driver while on a walk in Oceanside.
Saddletramps President Carl Smith of Alpine said club members were deeply touched by the outpouring of community support after four people with the group were killed while on a highway excursion in November. A passenger in a car also died and several others were seriously injured.
"Because the community has been so good to our club, we felt compelled to give back," Smith said.
The benefit ride -- known as a "poker run" -- will leave the Lakeside Veterans of Foreign Wars hall, 12650 Lindo Lane, at 9:30 a.m. Sunday. Motorcyclists wishing to take part can sign in starting at 8 a.m.
The entry fee is $20 for a single rider and $25 for a double.
The ride will cover about 110 miles, with stops in San Diego, Oceanside, El Cajon and other communities. Riders will draw a playing card at each checkpoint, with the goal of having the best hand at the end of the run.
Physicians have told Izaiah's family that he is blind and paralyzed from the waist down. He was on a walk with his grandfather when he was hit.
