FONDA, N.Y. — A 34-year-old upstate New York woman faces up to 18 years in prison for plowing head-on into two motorcyclists last summer, killing one and seriously injuring the other.
Albany-area newspapers report that Sybil Monk of Fort Plain pleaded guilty Wednesday to aggravated vehicular homicide for the July 25 accident that killed 66-year-old Bruce Gilmore of Wellesley Island in northern New York.
Montgomery County prosecutors say Monk was under the influence of prescribed narcotics when she hit the motorcycles being driven by Gilmore and 48-year-old Douglas Estelle of Clayton on Route 5 in Palatine, 45 miles northwest of Albany.
Estelle suffered serious injuries.
Monk, who had two of her three children in her car at the time, is set to be sentenced in March to six to 18 years in prison.
