How to Act If You Are Stopped By The Police For Questioning
Things You'll Need:
Smart Thinking
Civil Rights Awareness

1.You should know that it is not illegal to refuse to answer the police's questions, but know that not doing so may make the police suspicious of you.

2. If you are ever asked to identify yourself, then you should show your driver's license or some sort of identification. If you have been detained before or arrested, then the police may ask for your name and ask you a few questions. You can even be arrested in some states for refusing to give the police your proper identification. If you have reason to fear that your name is incriminating, then you can claim the right to remain silent, which can possibly be a defense in case you are arrested anyways.
3.The police may pat you down and search your clothing if they suspect you have a concealed weapon. Don't physically resist, but make it clear that you don't give them their consent to any further search.
4. Ask if you are under arrest. If you are, then you have a right to know for what reason.
5.You shouldn't bad mouth the police officer or run away, even if the police are in the wrong. This could lead to you being arrested and later charged with a minor offense which could have all been avoided if you just cooperated with the police.
