North Hampton NH. passes noise ordinance targeting motorcyclists

OFF THE WIRE
Will be interesting to see what their board comes up with.... I like the fact that the Police Chief has enough sense to call it unconstitutional and unenforceable! Think he's kept an eye on Boston's noise ordinance?

NORTH HAMPTON — Just over 19 percent of the 4,200 registered voters came out to take part in the town's first May municipal election held Tuesday at the North Hampton School.
The majority voted in favor of each of the 25 articles on the ballot. However, Article 9, which would have allowed the town to enter into a lease/purchase agreement for a new fire engine, failed to achieve the necessary three-fifths majority and failed.
All five zoning ordinance amendments passed, including one that established a blueprint for small wind energy systems. Also passing was an article that will allow the creation of committee to help in the preparation of the town's capital improvement plan.
Voters also approved an article that will rescind the current town code of ethics in favor of one a committee of townspeople will develop and recommend some time in the future. The proposed $5.457 million municipal operating budget for 2010-11 also passed.
Those who went to the polls Tuesday also passed a motorcycle noise ordinance that Police Chief Brian Page had called “unenforceable” and “unconstitutional.” It will now be up to the new Select Board to deal with that issue.
In the races for public office, Dick Wollmar defeated Ron Dupuis and will join Jim Maggiore, who ran unopposed, on the Select Board. Barbara Kohl held onto her seat on the Planning Board and will be joined there by political newcomer Mike Hornsby.
The switch from an appointed to an elected Zoning Board of Adjustment was completed this year with alternate David Buber and former Selectman George Lagassa winning the last two elected seats on that board. They defeated incumbent Ted Turchan, and newcomers Sylvia Cheever and Jonathan Pinette to do so.
In the only other contested elections, Richard Bettcher failed to win back his Cemetery Trustee post against Mary Lambert, or his Trustee of the Trust Funds job from George Chauncey. He did, however, remain water commissioner in an uncontested race.
