Smog Checks For Motorcycles-Still have Your Stock Exhaust System ???
Ca. Senate Bill 435 was introduced last year by Senator Fran Pavley and included language that would have required model year 2000 and later motorcycles to undergo biennial smog checks, same as automobiles that means if you had made Any modifications to your engine or exhaust,chances are you`d have to put them back to stock in order to PASS. But I was told they were`nt Planning to anything till February,but found out they`ve amended SB435. It appears they`ve removed the smog check provision as promised to get it out of the Senate Transportation Committee and added language which indicates their intent to stiffen enforcement and penalties for motorcyclists who tamper with their smog equipment. My first thought is that stiffening penalties and enforcement for only motorcycles as opposed to all vehicles is Discriminatory.
Thanks to the thousands of motorcyclists who called,wrote and faxed, we(Abate of Ca) were able to get the Senate Trans. Committee to require her to remove the language requiring smog checks before they allowed it to pass. The bill has been amended and is now awaiting hearing in the Assembly Trans. Committee.
Abate Of California,has been collecting signatures on a petition opposing S.B.435 since last year and our encouraging Riders to print copies and get everyone they know to sign it and mail or fax them back to our State Office, which is printed at the top.

Are the terrorists safe?

Although the U.S. Military Stateside can direct a drone aircraft halfway around the world to deliver bombs mostly on highly specific targets in Iraq,Afganistain. The pentagon acknowledged in December that even after six years of war, its signals to the drone are still not encrypted.
Thus,Iraqi and Taliban insurgents can pinpoint drone locations merely by using
ordniary computer programs like SkyGrabber,which is widely available from software retailers for about $25.00.
U.S. officials admitted that the software could make it easier for insurgents to anticipate the timing and locations of the attacks.

Slippery Slopes !

Here in Southern California,We do not get a`lot of rain, but when we do everything changes,peoples attitudes,driving habits(drive faster),disregard for following distance,even driving through warning signs, (rushing water,flooded roads.) I received this short story from one of my Friends. John Del Santo wrote, Here comes the Rain !!
Because of the runoff from rain,expect a spread of water or some washed out sand right around the next bend in the road.....In areas that burned during the year,
Rain can bring a`lot of mud down onto the road right around that curve!
On some canyon where there is a constant trickle of water running across the road,there may be moss growing under the water,which is about a hundred times more slippery than sand.If you spot that mossy water,it is best to treat it just like you do construction trench-plates....pull your clutch in before you reach it,no gas,no brake,stop breathing, Don`t even blink!!....
Whew!If you are lucky enough to end up upright on the other side,just say "Lucky"!Or send a few words of thanks to whoever manages your motorcycle Karma.

We need to extend our following distance in bad weather because wet road surfaces require a LOT more stopping distance,and hard braking on a wet surface can easily result in an unexpected improper dismount. You know not to trust anything painted on a roadway.When there is melting snow or yesterdays rainwater draining across the road,and the temperature is anywhere near the 30`s,you can find water on the sunny side of the roadway and Black Ice,which looks just like water,on the shady side of the road. Goodbye Traction! Hello Ditch!

It is much more difficult to keep the shiny side up if your on 2 wheel`s, instead of 4.... but we have a lot more fun Doing It!!!!!
