San Bernardino police to conduct motorcycle safety operation Monday

SAN BERNARDINO >> Police plan to conduct a specialized Motorcycle Safety Enforcement Operation Monday in an effort to lower deaths and injuries to motorcycle riders.
Officers will be patrolling areas frequented by motorcyclists and where motorcycle crashes occur, looking for violations that can lead to motorcycle crashes, police said.
They will be cracking down on both those operating regular vehicles and motorcycles while impaired and those who are speeding, making illegal turns or committing other dangerous violations, according to a Police Department news release.
California collision data show that primary causes of motorcycle-involved crashes are speeding, unsafe turning and impairment due to alcohol or drugs, police said.
