OFF THE WIRE
The second annual Sons of Sam Benefit Run will take place Saturday to benefit the Army National Guard Co. D, Second Battalion 108th Infantry unit, which is based on Hanshaw Road in Ithaca.
Sons of Sam is a patriotic motorcycle club, with chapters in Ithaca, Cortland, Syracuse and Oswego and the annual run is the local group's main fundraiser to benefit those who serve as active members of the United States military and especially our military veterans.
Sign-ups for the event will take place from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Groton Rod and Gun Club on Elm St. Extension and the run will begin at 1 p.m., rain or shine. A $10 donation per rider is requested. This is open to the public and all are welcome.
The route was being finalized as I wrote this, so riders will be given this information when they sign up. The ride will end with a return to the Groton Rod and Gun Club, where there will be food, music and vendors.
Groton Sons of Sam club member, Mike Batzer, said that anyone interested in joining this club is invited to come and hang out with club members at the Groton Rod and Gun club on Saturday. That is the best way to learn more about the club.
