Website Launch: Police initiative towards motorcycle safety
A new website aimed at keeping motorcyclists safe on the road has been launched by police forces throughout Scotland.
The Around the Corner website has been written by police motorcyclists, and provides vital riding tips, as well as information on local events, road conditions and route maps.
It has been launched by Around the Corner, a campaign designed to assist police forces and road users in improving road safety.
This unique initiative has played a significant part in reducing the number of motorcyclists killed and seriously injured in the Scottish Borders and is now being launched as the first Scottish National Motorcycle campaign.
With the backing of The Association of Chief Police Officers of Scotland (ACPOS), the Campaign will now be adopted as National Format.
All Forces within Scotland have agreed to support the campaign in an effort to reduce the number of motorcycle casualties on Scottish roads.
Each Force, in association with numerous partners, will support the concept of encouraging safe riding and engaging directly with those bikers visiting their area.
Through the dedicated website, any motorcyclist planning a visit to a specific area can get a weekly update from an official source, namely the local police motorcyclist. Information on road and weather conditions as well as events will be available first hand.
Police motorcyclists across Scotland will be out and about every weekend speaking to bikers at cafes and at other recognised stops, encouraging skill development and ensuring they have a great and safe day out.
Sergeant Chris More of Grampian Police Motorcycle Section said: "We are delighted to be part of Around the Corner and have fully supported the campaign which we have helped to develop over the last 18 months.
"With Operation Zenith now in its second year Around the Corner gives us an additional platform to promote safe motorcycling, as well as to publicise some fantastic motorcycling routes in the north east.
“Our own Police motorcyclists have assessed the routes and the site gives helpful information on these as well as events and initiatives taking place in the Grampian region.
"Any campaign designed to reduce motorcycle casualties and which offers riders safety advice and riding tips has to be worthwhile and I hope that people find the website informative and useful."
The new website includes a detailed route map of the Moray Run, a 160 mile circular route taking in Elgin, Forres and much of the Moray countryside.
