It’s taken just a little over two months, but the Spirit Lake Riders Motorcycle Club has managed to raise a tidy sum to help out a friend battling a difficult diagnosis.
Just one day short of her 30th birthday Danielle “Dani” Olson was presented Sunday, May 29 in Roosevelt Park with a check for over $30,000 raised by the bikers and their friends in the Christian Motorcycle Association.
Olson is the single mother of six-year old Dominic who was at his mom’s side for the presentation done by Spirit Lake Riders MC leader Bret Fredrickson from Fargo.
In 2005 Olson was dignosed with Systemic Lupus Eyrthematousis
and just recently finished her third round of chemo therapy which her doctors hope has put her lupus in remission.
Although employed as the director of nursing in a long term care facility at the time of her diagnosis Olson has been unable to return to work since October of 2009 suffering seizures and flare ups of the lupus.
The motorcycle club has had free will offering dinners and silent auctions and a dance to raise funds to help with medical and out-of-pocket expenses.
Her aunt and god-mother, JoAnn Mathews is a patched member of the Spirit Lake Riders and heads the Dollars for Dani committee. She says her niece is “a very loving person who builds her strength up to take care of her little son’s needs and play with him everyday. Her son means the world to her. He gives her the extra push when she needs to face another health issue and get through another treatment.”
