HARTFORD — Rep. Timothy D. Larson, D-East Hartford, is proposing that a now-optional safety training course be required for all first-time motorcycle drivers in the state.
Larson said Friday he decided to make the proposal after talking with Stephanie Pelletier of East Hartford, whose son, Nicholas Cohen, died at age 19 in May 2008 in a motorcycle accident.
Anyone with a driver’s license can get a motorcycle permit after completing certain requirements, including answering at least 12 questions correctly on a 16-question law test.
