Waterford,Connecticut, Bikers raise $8,000 in Marine's honor

Waterford - The Freedom Riders USA and local veterans organizations gathered for a check presentation on Sept. 24 from the successful eighth annual Ahn's Memorial Run, Vets Helping Vets.
Members from the Freedom Riders USA, the Military Veterans Motor Cycle Club, the New London Motorcycle Club, the Veterans of Foreign Wars, the American Legion, New London Lions Club and representatives from several other local veterans and community organizations as well as volunteers from the event gathered at Veterans Memorial Green for the presentation.
The memorial charity motorcycle run was held on Aug. 15 in memory of U.S. Marine Cpl. Kemaphoom "Ahn" Chanawongse, a Waterford native who was killed in Iraq in 2003.
Chanawongse's parents, Paul and Tan Patchem, presented checks, totaling $8,000 raised at the run, to the Veterans Transition Home in New London, represented by Ronald Steed, and the New London-based Community Foundation of Eastern Connecticut, which manages the memorial scholarship fund in Chanawongse's name, represented by Alison Woods.
State Sen. Andrea Stillman, Rep. Betsy Ritter, Waterford First Selectman Daniel Steward and a staffer for Rob Simmons also attended.
