New York, Greece NY Cracking down on MC noise

OFF THE WIRE
New York, Greece NY Cracking down on MC noise!!!!!

It is important to watch that laws do not pass that require motorcycle exhaust have a EPA stamp in them.
That fact that an aftermarket exhaust system currently does not have a stamp does not necessarily make them illegal.
80 Decibels is legal and some states even have higher levels.
This following statement is Untrue
"Motorcycles are built with factory installed (muffler) pipes and they're made to make the motorcycle quieter," said Greece Police Capt. Patrick Phelan. "If you make any alterations to those pipes or change to non-factory pipes, that's illegal."
Law enforcement should be required by law to check suspected violators with a calibrated decibel meter similar to what they use to check speed. Decibels levels can Not Be Left Up To The Officer.
There are currently laws that apply to noise.
The difference in the ones being introduced is that the new ones have a higher dollar amount per violation making many believe that this is the true reason for trying to pass them.
There are those who also believe that the motorcycle manufactures want to put the aftermarket exhaust companies out of business even though they do supply performance exhaust and will make a lot of money from them.
Think about the people that could lose work and the increase of cost to companies to pay off the EPA to be certified and then that cost added to the price of a new exhaust system.
It is not difficult for some one to modify a muffler even one that has a stamp on it. The argument would then be to the cop hey it must be legal it has a stamp on it.
