DAYTON — Dayton police homicide detectives are investigating a Sunday incident involving a man who was shot before he crashed into a motorcycle clubhouse south of Rosedale Drive and James H. McGee Boulevard.
A Dayton police report identifies the victim as Kenneth Casey, 37, address unknown. Casey’s autopsy is scheduled for Tuesday, according to Dayton Homicide Det. Gary White.
Dayton Police Lt. Brian Johns said a handgun was recovered at the scene, but it was not immediately known to whom the gun belonged.
White said Monday a handgun was found inside the maroon Oldsmobile sedan that Casey was driving south on James H. McGee Boulevard immediately before the car crashed into the headquarters for The Posse Motorcycle Club, 340 N. James H. McGee Blvd.
“He lost control of the vehicle, went across the median, across oncoming traffic and hit the house,” Johns said.
Casey, who had been shot at least one time in the chest, was transported to Miami Valley Hospital, where he died.
Police received reports of gunshots being fired near the areas of Oakridge Drive, Kammer Avenue, Mathison Street and Woodward Avenue before Casey crashed the Oldsmobile, which was registered to one of Casey’s relatives, White said.
“We don’t know where he was situated when the shooting happened,” White said.
Prior to Casey’s death, the city had 26 homicides so far this year.

Anyone with information is urged to call Crime Stoppers at (937) 222-7867.
