Campaign Volunteers

OFF THE WIRE

If you are not a campaign volunteer THIS year ...
... you will lose more of your rights NEXT year.

It's good that so many bikers are taking action, from one end of the state to the other. This is how we earn our reputation, and it will pay big dividends in the long run. Whether we win or lose any individual race, being known as campaign workers will stick with friend and foe alike in Sacramento.

Sporty has been leading the charge since long before I first met him at the Southern Regional Rally. Sporty was the first ABATE officer I ever heard who specifically emphasized the importance of campaign volunteering. And of course Sporty leads by example. No doubt others have been doing it as well for years.
Carol put together the voter guide for us, and she deserves our thanks for helping with that. But this prep work was done for a reason. While Carol lets us know who to work for, the final step is up to us. If we don't follow through with boots on the ground, it's all for nothing.
Down here in San Diego, Local 6 and Local 11 members are stepping up. I invited a campaign manager to the most recent Local 6 meeting, and she handed out over 13 "precinct walk" packages to Local members. What better way to get volunteers and cut out all the wasted steps. If you have a Local meeting coming up, have the campaign manager there and hand out assignments on the spot.
I personally delivered literature door-to-door in three of those precincts. No knocking, no talking ... just walking. I know Fran was doing the same thing the day before yesterday down in Imperial ... the rain, no less. She may be a chick, but she's sure got some balls. I also heard from the campaign manager that Keith and others are pounding the pavement, too. And now I've got a box of campaign yard signs, ready for delivery. (see attached pic)
Now that the yard signs have been received, we'll spend a little more time riding instead of just walking. I've got about 30 to deliver immediately, and expect more delivery assignments soon. Jim has already delivered some of these signs, and I know several other bikers are ready to roll as well.

Thanks to everyone who's making a difference, from the state officers to the bikers on the front lines. Every link in the chain is equally important, so don't let it fall short by just one biker (you). Jim Lombardo will find a lot of biker-friendly legislators in Sacramento, thanks to all the ground work we're doing right now. Be sure to let Jim know which ones you helped, and what you did to help them.

Let me know too, if you want a limited edition "2010 RIDE2REPEAL" patch. There's only one way to get it ... and that is to earn it on the campaign trail. (There are only about 15 left, and it's first come first served.) I will be mailing out all of them in the next week or so. Email me at RIDE2REPEAL@gmail.com to find out how to get yours.

Hi Folks,
Time to put our energy into helping motorcycle friendly candidates get elected or re-elected.
4 attached files –
1) Volunteer to Work for these Candidates – Important races. (Our List)
and these are emails received asking for Volunteers:
2) Help Candidates AD63 (Mike Morrell) & SD 32 (Earl DeVries)
3) Help Candidate AD 5 Andy Pugno (pronounced like Poonyo)
4) Help Candidate SD4 (Doug LaMalfa)

When you volunteer to help –
Let them know you are with ABATE Of California;
Send an email to me carol@abate.org “what candidate” you helped so we can let Jim know that ABATE was there – this knowledge helps Jim when they get elected and needs to find our supporters, if we helped them in any way at all.

Just because a candidate is on the list and recommended to Vote for them is only part of the step to help them, the other part is VOLUNTEERING, and the last step is contributing money to their campaign. Funds are limited, so Volunteering is very good!

Campaign donations will be brought up; & voted on; at the next PAC meeting October 16 in Sacramento, LaQuinta Inn; 200 Jibboom St.
10:45 am (follows the Presidents Meeting). (Room reservations on line www.LaQuinta.com and use the word STATE for the promo code)
PLAN to attend.

Thank you for your help!!!
