Motorcycle gang worries town

Off the Wire News
MCs in the News CRESWELL, Ore. - Lillian Helck has lived in Creswell 15 years. Over the past couple days, she says she's never been so scared.
"When any motorcycle group moves into town it's not safe," she said. "And now they're in my neighborhood. In Creswell."
She is talking about the Mongols, a biker gang often described as the nation's most violent. Since December they've been spotted around Lane County. Just days ago, Harry Holt Memorial Park was the scene of a Mongol fight. On April 23, three members ran a police car off the road.
Detective Dave Burroughs of the Eugene Police Department was in that car.
"If you cross a Mongol. It's a very real threat," he said.
He has been tracking bike gangs. The Mongols, he said, mean trouble.
"They're there to be the top dog," he said. "To be the most violent. And to be the most feared."
Authorities said if you see something suspicious, do not get involved. Instead, fill out an anonymous tip form found at Creswell's City Hall and any Lane County Sheriff's Office.
Meanwhile, 20-year-old Joshua Rand, who used to ride with bike gangs in Arkansas, said all this Mongol mention is being blown out of proportion.
"Bikers, they're pretty much like a family," said Rand. "They hang out together but technically when you think about it, it doesn't matter who the family is. There's always one person that's a little short tempered."
While only time will tell just how the Mongols make their mark in Oregon, concerned residents like Helck hope they keep on moving along Interstate 5.
"We don't want them in Creswell," said Helck. "Creswell is a friendly town and we just don't want that violence here."
