Escondido police are planning a crackdown Saturday to promote the safety of motorcyclists, a police lieutenant said.
Officers will spend the day looking for drivers and riders who are under the influence of drugs or alcohol, and cracking down on traffic violations made by motorcyclists and other vehicle drivers, Lt. Tom Albergo said.
A similar crackdown in July yielded 31 traffic stops, including stops of 10 motorcyclists, he said. One rider was caught doing a wheelie down Bear Valley Parkway, and another motorcyclist ---- who was unlicensed ---- was cited for driving faster than 75 mph, Albergo said. In that instance, the motorcycle had no working gauges, and a passenger was sitting on a towel strapped to the fender.
Albergo said the crackdown also saw a motorist arrested for drunken driving and hit-and-run in a crash with a motorcycle.
