Several people connected to a Launceston motorcycle gang have been arrested in a major drug operation in Tasmania's north.
The 12 people associated with the Rebels Motorcycle Chapter in Launceston were charged with drug trafficking after a six-month police investigation. Police seized $200,000 worth of methyl amphetamine, also known as 'ice', in a series of raids.
They allege a further $250,000 of amphetamine was sold over a six-month period.
Inspector Scott Flude from Launceston CIB says it is worrying that so much of the drug has already been sold in Tasmania.
"We are a small state...we'd be mindful of any significant quantity of drugs that come into patch, so to speak," he said.
"Certainly a seizure such as this, and an operation such as this, has the capacity I think to put a large dent in the supply of methyl-amphetamine into Tasmania."
One member and one associate of the Outlaws Motorcycle Chapter have also been charged with drug related offences.
They will appear in court at a later date.
Police say more arrests will be made.
Eleven past members and associates of the Rebels Motorcycle Club and one senior member have been accused of trafficking methyl-amphetamine, also known as 'ice'.
