Motorcycle Helmet Laws Could Change in Del.

Updated: May 05, 2011 SMYRNA, Del.- Lawmakers in Delaware are considering repealing a law that requires motorcyclists to carry a helmet while riding.

Under current law, bikers in Delaware must carry a helmet when they ride, but they don't have to wear it unless they are under the age of nineteen.

Many bikers said the law doesn't make sense. The proposed legislation would eliminate the need to carry a helmet, but residents under nineteen would still have to wear a helmet.

Bikers like Brad Margisc said the current law doesn't accomplish very much.

"Personally I think they should either make you wear the helmet or not make you wear the helmet. Keeping the helmet on the bike is pointless. There is really no reason for it," he said.

To become law, the bill must pass the House and the Senate and be signed by Governor Jack Markell. http://www.wboc.com/story/14564091/motorcycle-helmets
