PITTSFIELD -- A member of the local chapter of the Hells Angels motorcycle gang is under felony indictment for allegedly trying to pin a phony crime on a witness scheduled to testify against him.
Adam Lee Hall, 33, was held on $50,000 cash bail after denying several criminal charges at his arraignment Monday in Berkshire Superior Court.
Investigators said they have identified Hall as the mastermind of a plot to frame David Glasser, a 44-year-old Pittsfield man, for a crime that never occurred. Glasser is a witness in an upcoming criminal trial in which Hall is the defendant, police said.
Hall, the sergeant at arms for the Berkshire County chapter of the Hells Angels, had hoped to blame the man for a bogus armed robbery and shooting incident in upstate New York to prevent him from testifying against Hall in a pending Berkshire Superior Court criminal case, police said.
Glasser was accused by one of Hall's associates of robbing her at gunpoint in August at a Wells, N.Y., rest area, but that incident never took place, police said. The frame-up scheme also included allegations that Glasser fired at the woman, according to police.
Hall pleaded not guilty Monday to single counts of witness intimidation, conspiracy to intimidate a witness, kidnapping, and possession of a firearm during commission of a felony.
Nicole M. Brooks, 21, of Scotia, N.Y., one of Hall's three alleged accomplices, was held on $75,000 cash bail after denying identical charges at her Superior Court arraignment Monday.
Another alleged associate, Scott Langdon, 44, of Pittsfield, pleaded not guilty to the same charges last week. Alexandra M. Ely, 20, also of Pittsfield, has yet to be charged in Superior Court.
All four defendants originally were charged in Central Berkshire District Court.
The conspiracy indictment alleges that the defendants worked together to fabricate an Aug. 14 armed robbery in upstate New York, then tried to pin the crime on Glasser.
The goal was "to put him in jail" so that Glasser couldn't testify in Hall's upcoming trial, according to police reports.
The case was investigated by Pittsfield police, the Berkshire County Drug Task Force and New York State Police.
Hall's other pending criminal charges include assault, plus drug and weapons offenses.
