The Jamestown Police Department has still not released an accident report for a fatal motorcycle accident involving an off-duty Providence police officer.
Police said 43-year-old John Reposa Jr. was riding a motorcycle through the intersection of North Road and Westwind Drive when it collided with a car at about 8:30 p.m. Saturday.
Reposa was pronounced dead at the scene. Officials said he was not wearing a helmet.
The driver of the car, 44-year-old Marijke Landon, of North Carolina, was not injured.
In Rhode Island, anyone under the age of 21 needs to wear a helmet, and if a person is a newly licensed motorcycle operator, they must wear a helmet for one year, regardless of age.
In Massachusetts, helmets are mandatory for all ages.
In Connecticut, motorcycle operators under the age of 18 must wear helmets.
Police said the accident remains under investigation.
Providence Mayor Angel Taveras remembered the 19-year veteran as an officer with a big personality and a big heart. He ordered city flags be flown at half-staff to honor Reposa.
