WEST VIRGINIA - Fugitive arrested on fraud charges

OFF THE WIRE
HUNTINGTON -- A multi-state crime spree ended Tuesday when Cabell County Sheriff's deputies arrested a man who was staying at a local hotel.
Michael L. Leffingwell, 42, of Nashville, Tenn., was charged with one felony count of false pretenses out of Cabell County as well as being charged as a fugitive from justice, according to criminal complaints filed in Cabell County Magistrate Court.
Leffingwell is wanted for similar charges, dating back to 2011, in Georgia, Missouri and his native Tennessee, Cabell County Sheriff's Deputy Dale Enochs said.
A warrant was filed for Leffingwell's arrest by Cabell County authorities in March.
A Connecticut man reported he and Leffingwell had negotiated a deal in which he would purchase motorcycle parts from Leffingwell for $1,663. The man wired the money in two transactions to Leffingwell, who never sent the man the parts, according to the criminal complaint.
At the time of the initial report in March, Leffingwell told Enochs he would return the victim's money if no charges were filed, but Leffingwell had failed to do so as of Tuesday, eight months after the initial report.
Leffingwell will be extradited to Missouri after he has faced his charges in Cabell County, Enochs said.
Leffingwell was incarcerated at the Western Regional Jail on Tuesday night. His bond was $10,000.
