SAN DIEGO, CA - Local law enforcement to get $2M to combat DUIs

OFF THE WIRE

— San Diego County law enforcement agencies will be receiving nearly $2 million in grants to combat drunken driving over the next year, authorities announced Friday.
The grants come from the state Office of Traffic Safety. The funds will go to seven local police departments, the Sheriff’s Department and county probation.
An additional $600,000 in funding is also coming to the county for training, data analysis and child safety seat education.
Law enforcement will be saturating the county through Nov. 4 in a multiagency operation aimed at reducing DUIs, crashes and underage drinking related to Halloween festivities.
A DUI patrol will also be held in the San Diego State University area on Saturday. Police in the area will also be enforcing the city’s Social Host Ordinance over the weekend, targeting underage drinking at house parties.
