California - SAN JOSE -- A San Jose man has been arrested in the
connection with the deadly stabbing of a Henchmen motorcycle club member outside
a bar over the weekend, police said.
Mateo Gutierrez, 27, was arrested Tuesday evening in Morgan Hill on suspicion
of killing 28-year-old Daniel Marichalar, a San Jose native, during a large
brawl outside the Hideaway Lounge early Sunday morning.
Investigators did not release a motive or how they came to identify Gutierrez as a suspect, but the fight that ended with Marichalar's death was witnessed by several people, including multiple combatants.
According to police and other sources, Marichalar left an event with some fellow Henchmen and stopped by a party at the lounge near Bernal Avenue and Monterey Highway.
Around 1 a.m., a scuffle broke out and a large group, which included Marichalar, were told to leave by bar security.
The brawl continued outside, and police were called. But by the time officers arrived most of the crowd had dispersed and Marichalar was suffering from a fatal stab wound. His death marked the 34th homicide of the year.
