Chris Bender of Thousand Oaks shows off his custom 2006 Harley-Davidson Evolution at last year's David Mann Chopperfest in Ventura.
For an odd mix of jargon, visit the glossary at newyorkbikerlawyers.com,  a website for attorneys who help people injured in motorcycle accidents. You'll find definitions for terms like rat bike ("a motorcycle that's been kept running by any means possible"), chopper ("a cruiser-style bike that has a lot of the pieces of the bike 'chopped off' ") and bagger ("a motorcycle with touring accessories like saddlebags, a trunk, etc.) along with definitions for legal lingo like "comparative negligence," "bench trial" and "burden of proof."
All the aforementioned bikes and many other custom motorcycles will be on display Sunday at the eighth annual David Mann Chopperfest at the Ventura County Fairgrounds. Maybe even a few lawyers will show up.
The eighth annual event should induce biker bliss with an all-brand bike show (registration 7-9 a.m.) and displays by custom builders, a David Mann art exhibit, hundreds of motorcycle vendors, a swap meet for new and used parts, live music by the Bob Carillo Band, and a roller derby exhibition by the Sugartown Rollergirls.
We'll save the roller derby lingo for another time.
Chopperfest will take place 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday at the Ventura County Fairgrounds, 10 W. Harbor Blvd., Ventura. Tickets are $15 for general admission, $10 for military and $5 for children younger than 12. Registration to enter a motorcycle in the bike show is $40.
