Gov. Scott declares Motorcycle Safety Awareness Month

Gov. Rick Scott has declared May to be Motorcycle Safety Awareness Month in recognition of the growing number of motorcycles in Florida, especially as warmer weather and daylight savings encourage bikers.
In a proclamation, Scott noted that motorcycles are increasingly used as a regular means of transportation and they are energy-efficient, reducing fuel consumption and parking concerns. More than 1 million Floridians are authorized to operate motorcycles.
“As a matter of safety, it is necessary to develop appropriate driving habits to handle these vehicles on Florida roadway,” Scott said. “To prevent injuries and deaths on Florida’s roadways, motorcyclists and motorists must be vigilant in their efforts to share the road and ensure the safety of everyone.”
