CANADA - Police to keep a close eye on two biker gxxx gatherings in B.C. cities

VANCOUVER — In British Columbia, the May long weekend is well know for boating, camping and Hells Angels gatherings.

Members of B.C.'s Outlaw Motorcycle Gang Enforcement and Intelligence Unit will closely watch two biker events planned for this weekend in Kelowna and in Campbell River on Vancouver Island.

The unit's Sgt. Shinder Kirk says dozens of Hells Angels, including many from outside the province, will converge on the cities and are expected to attend biker rides.

Kirk says in recent years the gatherings have been uneventful, but at times violence has erupted and crimes have been committed at the events.

The police unit will be calling in additional resources from nearby communities to ensure public safety.

The intelligence unit is made up of officers from RCMP and municipal police forces.
