A TENT city has sprung up through the blades of grass at District Park Broadmeadow.
The first of more than 5000 members the Ulysses motorcycle club expected to visit Newcastle this week set up camp at the site yesterday.
Members have come from around the country for their annual meeting, which includes a series of rides and social events.
Trikes are a popular feature this year with owners of the three-wheeled monsters showing off vehicles in colours ranging from fuchsia to ocean blue.
Bikes range from classic Harley-Davidson's to futuristic-style Suzukis.
The Ulysses is a motorcycle club for older people with a passion for motorbikes.
The event will culminate with a grand parade from Dixon Park to Foreshore Park on Saturday.
Many members were happy yesterday to have the opportunity to see Newcastle.
Some of the riders were new to the Hunter area while others had not been in Newcastle for many years but all the good-natured members were keen for a joke and a laugh.
Among them is Kevin "Kevvy Care Bear" Allan, of Mackay, Queensland, and his Panther trike.
