PHILADELPHIA - January 31, 2011 (WPVI) -- The former leader of a notorious biker gang was ordered to be held for trial on Monday morning in Philadelphia.
Steven "Gorilla" Mondevergine faces attempted murder charges in Philadelphia for shooting the former Pagan's Motorcycle Club president back in 2008.
Mondevergine reportedly shot his rival, Timothy "Casual" Flood, in the knee and stabbed him in the back on January 30, 2008, in Northeast Philadelphia because he wanted his job as president of the club back.
Investigators found Mondevergine late last year hiding in his mother's house in New Jersey.
Mondevergine was in court in Philadelphia after being extradited from Gloucester County, New Jersey.
Mondevergine is a former Philadelphia police officer who was fired in 1982, after three years on the job, for allegedly accepting bribes to protect an illegal gambling operation.
He adamantly denied the charges, which were later dropped.
Former Philly Pagan President Arrested
In this First on Fox report, the former President of the Pagans motorcycle gang in Philadelphia is under arrest in South Jersey.
Fox 29’s Dave Schratwieser reports that Steve Mondevergine, known on the streets as “Gorilla”, was arrested this morning in Washington Township on attempted murder and assault charges. Those charges stem from a January 2008 shooting and stabbing in Northeast Philadelphia involving another member of the Pagans.
The Philadelphia DA’s office has charged Mondevergine with shooting and stabbing former Pagans President Timothy Flood, known as “Casual”. Investigators say Mondevergine walked into Pagans headquarters at Torresdale and Disston 2 years ago and opened fire.
Mondevergine remains behind bars in New Jersey tonight awaiting an extradition hearing on Friday.
