The Watertown Chrome Divas of New York State don't just ride on Saturday afternoon -they ride for a cause. This year the group raised over $16,000 to support breast cancer awareness, nearly tripling the amount from last year's run. The 17-member motorcycle club includes two breast cancer survivors, making the run even more powerful for everyone involved.
The event which was held in late September, was a poker run starting and ending at a motorcycle shop, in tandem with a radiothon. This year's event brought on sponsors to raise awareness in the community and bring in the media to cover the run, which worked wonders as shown by the tripling of donations.
The women from the club organize the run themselves, working long hours to coordinate all the moving parts involved. The checks from donations were given to the Governor Business Women, Pink Ribbon Riders and Cancer Services Program of Lewis and Jefferson Counties. The Chrome Diva's commented they like to "promote women's health issues, awareness and give back to the communities..." And why not add a generous twist to a beautiful fall ride in upstate New York? This charity run is a great example of the power of motorcycles uniting people to accomplish great things.
