I know alot of you are asking, Why is a rock singer writing for bikers? Well, it's this simple, for the past 5 years or so, I have dedicated my music career to entertaining bikers. In 2003 my band was honored to be the first to play for our troops in the Middle East since the start of Operation Iraqi Freedom. We played 11 countries during our 27 day tour. When we returned to the States, the rumor spread that the Geneva band was the band to hire for any patriotic celebration. We were contacted by Woody at the Buffalo Chip in Sturgis, SD to perform for the Veterans award ceremonies during Sturgis Bike Week. We volunteered our services and was once again honored to do so. This was my FIRST official bike rally friends. What a place to start, huh?
While doing our patriotic duty, we saw that we were surrounded by our honored guests and they were surrounded by bikers from all over the USA, holding our American flag high and proud! After meeting so many soldiers during our USO tour, I was touched by the bravery of the men and women in uniform and there was a moment during our Chip performance that I literally felt a rush of pride to be in that spot at that very moment.
For 9 days straight, we met bikers and spoke with so many people from so many different places around the country about many topics and the one common thread amoung all of my new wind loving friends was their dedication to making a difference in the lives of Veterans, families and children in need. Not a biker myself at that time, I was touched by the stories about their rides, poker runs and charity events. I learned that bikers have huge hearts and it truly is a brotherhood, they hold to their convictions and if there is a cause that needs attention, they rally together to lend a helping hand no matter how big or small the cause may be.
So there's the first reasons why I decided to become strickly a biker entertainer. Second... well, it's just so much damn fun! It's a great feeling headlining these rallies, checkin' out the bikes, seeing all the familiar faces and meeting new friends at every event. I gotta say... The biker community has been very good to me, and good for me. Like I was telling L.J. and Chuck, these bike rallies, especially the camping venues are nothing but huge adult playgrounds. It can get a little crazy at times but from my experience and what I've seen, it's all in good fun. My plan is to do my part in helping the non-biker citizens to be more aware of the selfless nature of bikers and do what I can to help educate them on the fact that the old school mentality that all bikers are hell raising criminals is not at all reality. Yes, there may be a few, but I've never met a biker who would
confirm that image in my mind.
Think about this... We're use to this image of a biker: Tattoos, worn leather, scraggly beards and chained wallets BUT I know that he has a reason for that tattoo, most of the time it's there to honor a loved one or worn as a reminder of where he came from...Usually a tattoo has a heart touching story behind that ink. The worn leather is to protect him from the wind, rain, beaming sun and the elements of nature while riding for days to attend a charity event for a child who may need a heart or just a warm meal! The beard he wears also helps to protect his face from the elements. The wallet attached to that chain will open without question to help out a stranger stuck on the side of the road who's out of gas and money, while hundreds of automobiles pass without even a second glance. Yes, the image of a biker to me is a pleasing sight and I feel safe knowing that these beautiful people are in my life on any given day!
Though I get very angry when I hear ignorant negative comments about bikers, everyone has their own opinion and I respect that. I think they are just simply uneducated because they are unaware of the thousands and thousands of dollars donated to the many charities each year by bikers.
My TV show "Geneva's Rock-N-Ride" that airs on select FOX networks features my life on the road with our band. We show music clips of our originals, the fun loving adventures and the true nature of what goes on at these biker events in hopes to educate the non-biker citizens that its all about the heart.
At this time, Curve Music company is hosting a fund raiser in hopes to make GDD TV a non-profit biker owned production company that already films charity biker events. All proceeds will go towards the cost of filming, producing and airing the clips on Geneva's Rock-N-Ride TV show. GDD TV is currently working on a zero budget. The film crew has donated their time and talents for this ongoing project in hopes to broadcast the many charities to a larger mass. I agreed to send an autographed photo to every biker who donates five bucks or more to GDD TV. You can see an example of one of our charity film clips on my website below.
